QUALIFICATIONS

• 18 years or older – exceptions depending on volunteer opportunity.
• Good listener; able to show empathy with an individual’s situation and sympathetic to others.
• Sociable, warm, and friendly; able to connect with terminally ill clients and their families.
• Willing and able to accept 2 activities a month on a regular basis, honoring each commitment made.
• Able to remain calm in stressful situations; able to cope with the emotional demands of providing support to our clients and their families.

• Able to establish and maintain professional boundaries with clients and their families, including closing relationships with final assignments.
• After a significant personal loss or death of a close family member or friend, allowing one year for healing and self-care before volunteering – exceptions may be given.
• Able to exercise internal and external organizational sensitivity.

• Able to provide proof of a valid Michigan driver’s license (or Michigan ID) and proof of automobile insurance.
• Meets all vaccine requirements per policy governed by state and federal regulations, including annual flu vaccinations and other mandated vaccinations.

The Volunteer supports the mission of Centrica Care through direct participation in its programs and administrative operations.

• Performs the activities associated with each volunteer assignment.
• Is available on a regular basis to provide service to a specific client, agency program or department.
• Participates in mandatory educational in-services and volunteer informational/support meetings.
• Maintains open communication with the Volunteer Coordinator and program liaisons.
• Able to use, and commits to checking email at least once each week, more frequently as required for the assignment, and responds in a timely manner.

• Serves as an integral member of the staff within their assigned area of service.
• Submits written reports for every volunteer activity performed within 48 hours of the service.
