Job Description
Position Summary:
The Hospital Security Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of patients, visitors, staff, and property within the hospital. This position involves monitoring premises, responding to incidents, assisting with emergencies, and maintaining a secure and welcoming environment that supports quality healthcare.
Key Responsibilities:
Patrol hospital grounds, buildings, and parking areas to prevent and detect unauthorized activity, theft, vandalism, or safety hazards.
Monitor surveillance systems, alarms, and access control systems.
Respond promptly to emergencies, including medical codes, fire alarms, disturbances, and security incidents.
Assist in de-escalating situations involving disruptive, aggressive, or unauthorized individuals.
Enforce hospital rules, regulations, and visitor policies with professionalism and courtesy.
Escort staff, patients, and visitors as needed for safety.
Work closely with law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services when required.
Write detailed incident reports and maintain accurate security logs.
Support hospital staff during high-risk situations such as behavioral health crises or restricted patient care.
Provide customer service by offering directions, assistance, and reassurance to patients and visitors.
Perform crowd control during emergencies, large events, or high-traffic situations.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; additional training in security, law enforcement, or public safety preferred.
Prior experience in security, law enforcement, or healthcare security preferred.
Valid state security guard license/certification (if required by state law).
CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (or willingness to obtain).
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle stressful situations calmly and effectively.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Must be physically able to walk, stand, and respond quickly in emergencies.
Working Conditions:
Rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Exposure to sensitive medical environments, including behavioral health units.
Frequent interaction with patients, visitors, and staff in potentially high-stress situations
