About APEX International Education Partners

Established in 2011, APEX International Education Partners helps U.S. secondary schools recruit and support international students, promoting diversity and cultural awareness. We provide international students with the support needed to thrive academically, socially, and culturally while studying in the U.S.

Our portfolio includes private day schools across the U.S., a dormitory in Connecticut, and host families who ensure the well-being and success of students. We are committed to guiding students through both their academic and social experiences, ensuring a seamless integration into American culture.

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated, responsible, and compassionate Full-Time House Parent to support and supervise a group of international middle and high school students living in a small residence hall on the scenic waterfront campus of Mitchell College in New London, Connecticut. While the residence hall is part of the larger Mitchell College campus, it offers a quiet, semi-private setting with stunning views of Long Island Sound and easy access to a private beach just across the street.

The House Parent must be capable of independently managing the daily operations and student care of the residence hall, as there are no direct reports. A part-time Resident Assistant (RA) will support with some overnight responsibilities. This is a live-in position, and the House Parent may live with a significant other or companion.

This is a 10-month live-in position that includes a mix of daytime, evening, and weekend responsibilities. Students arrive in mid-August and depart in mid-June. For the 2025-2026 academic year, the residence will begin with 10 students and may grow to house up to 25. All students attend nearby private day schools.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety, well-being, and comfort of all residence hall residents
  • Build a welcoming, respectful, and nurturing home environment
  • Provide informal mentoring and support for international students adjusting to life in the U.S.
  • Enforce house rules and promote good conduct and community values
  • Transport students daily to and from school and to extracurricular events using a 15-passenger van
  • Plan, organize, and execute regular fun events and teambuilding activities for students both on and off-campus
  • Ensure consistent overnight supervision; coordinate with a part-time RA for coverage
  • Remain on-call for emergencies or urgent needs during non-school hours
  • Liaise with private school and APEX staff
  • Manage basic scheduling, meal coordination (if needed), and parent communications

Compensation, Benefits & Perks

  • Salary: $45,000-$50,000/year (10-month contract)
  • Private, fully furnished apartment within the residence hall:
    • One private bedroom for the House Parent
    • Shared kitchen, bathroom, and living room with the Resident Assistant (RA)
    • Option to live with a significant other or companion
  • All utilities included: electricity, water, internet, heating/cooling
  • Health, Dental, and Vision insurance options
  • Private beach access and waterfront location with peaceful views of Long Island Sound
  • Unique opportunity to live and work in a close-knit, international community

Qualifications

  • Fluency in English is required; Mandarin Chinese strongly preferred
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; comfortable operating a 15-passenger van
  • Prior experience supervising or working with youth (especially in a residential, educational, or caregiving setting)
  • Organized, dependable, and self-sufficient-must be able to manage the residence hall independently
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Background in education, counseling, social work, or youth programs preferred
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)

Preferred Attributes

  • Culturally aware and supportive of international students
  • Friendly, approachable, and calm under pressure
  • Able to set boundaries while fostering a home-like environment
  • Flexible with evening and weekend hours
